Stabilization of Lead-Contaminated Mine Soil Using Natural Waste Materials

نویسندگان

چکیده

Stabilization was applied as a remediation option for immobilizing lead (Pb) in contaminated mine soil. Four types of waste materials were used stabilizing agents, namely oyster shells (WOS), calcined (COS), natural starfish (NSF), and spent-coffee-grounds-derived biochar (SCGB). The Pb-contaminated soil treated with the agents ranging from 0 to 10 wt% curing period 28 days. toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP) employed evaluating effectiveness remedial process. Pb immobilization mechanism investigated using scanning electron microscopy–energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) analyses. obtained results showed that TCLP levels decreased agent dosage increased. WOS COS immobilized effectively Application dosages 4 2 COS, respectively, sufficient compliance regulatory level 5 mg/L. For NSF SCGB treatments, wt%, necessary meet limit. found increase following order: < COS. chemical fraction analyses lower F2 (weak acid soluble) higher F3 (reducible) F4 (oxidizable) fractions most likely associated high immobilization. Moreover, SEM-EDX analysis effective could be strongly pozzolanic reaction products.

Solidification/Stabilization of Lead Contaminated Soil Using Magnesia Phosphate cement and Ordinary Portland cement

Background and objectives: Solidification/stabilization is an effective technique for reducing the leachability of contaminants in soils. Magnesia phosphate cement and ordinary Portland cement can be used to remediate soils contaminated. In this study, the performance of the solidified/stabilized soil was compared for mixtures composed of magnesia phosphate and ordinary Portland cement. Materia...

Stabilization/solidification of lead-contaminated soil using cement and rice husk ash.

This paper presents the findings of a study on solidification/stabilization (S/S) of lead-contaminated soil using ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and rice husk ash (RHA). The effects of varying lead concentrations (in the form of nitrates) in soil samples on the physical properties of their stabilized forms, namely unconfined compressive strength (UCS), setting times of early mixtures and change...

Ten-Year Monitored Natural Recovery of Lead-Contaminated Mine Tailing in Klity Creek, Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand

BACKGROUND Klity Creek has become Thailand's first official remediation ordered by the court in 2013, 15 years after the spill of lead (Pb)-contaminated mine tailing into the creek. The Pollution Control Department (PCD) decided to restore the creek through monitored natural recovery (MNR) since 2006 but has not been successful. Interestingly, the most recent remediation plan in 2015 will still...

Remediation of Lead-Contaminated Soil, Using Clean Energy in Combination with Electro-Kinetic Methods

The present study aims at investigating the feasibility of using solar energy as a power source to run electro-kinetic remediation in order to clean-up lead from three types of Iraqi soil. In order to do so, it carries out six tests with enhancement conditions, involving pH control and injection wells. Conducted in the city of Baghdad, Iraq, the experiment, is divided into two groups so that th...
